WKU Issues Statement In September 19, 2003 While the University regrets the terrible crime that was perpetrated against Ms. Autry, it is confident that the facts will show neither its staff nor its policies played a role in this tragic event. An independent, advisory Campus Safety Task Force reviewed all aspects of campus safety, with special emphasis on residence halls. Their report, issued July 30, 2003, affirmed that proper safety and security policies and procedures were, and are, in place at the University. It is the position of the University that the person or persons involved in this crime are solely responsible for Ms. Autry's death. Published reports previously released by the media have indicated that those person or persons gained entry into the residence hall and Ms. Autry's room with her consent. The University is confident that the criminal justice system will punish those responsible for Ms. Autry's murder and will vigorously defend the civil suit filed by Ms. Autry's mother and maternal aunt.
