Winona Laduke To Speak
At WKU On Sept. 17

Bowling Green, Ky. - Winona LaDuke, an internationally recognized Native American advocate for environmental, women's and children's rights, will speak Sept. 17 at Western Kentucky University.

LaDuke's topic will be "Last Woman Standing: A Sweeping Indictment of Racism and Oppression." The lecture, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Mass Media and Technology Hall.

LaDuke is the founder of the White Earth Land Recovery Project and the Indigenous Women's Network. She also organizes and hosts the annual "Honor the Earth" tour with the folk-rock group Indigo Girls.

Her honors include the Reebok Human Rights Award and Ms magazine Woman of the Year. She has written extensively on national environmental and social issues and was the Green Party's candidate for U.S. vice president in 1996 and 2000.

LaDuke's appearance is sponsored by the Women's Studies Program; Gail Martin Lecture and Faculty Development Series; Center Activities Board; Rodes-Helm Lecture Series; and Potter College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
