October 13, 2003

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University will bring donors and students together Thursday night for the third annual Scholarship Celebration.

About 250 to 300 donors and students are expected for the dinner at 6 p.m. at Diddle Arena's auxiliary gym.

The Scholarship Celebration recognizes benefactors who have established endowed scholarships and provides them with an opportunity to meet the recipients.

Through funds in the WKU Foundation and the College Heights Foundation, Western annually awards more than $1 million to nearly 1,200 students.

This year's event will include remarks from donor Angela Martin Gibbs and student Betsy Ann Tracy, recipient of the Todd Gibbs Memorial Scholarship.

The Gibbs Memorial Scholarship was established in December 1995 through the University's Office of University Relations in memory of Gibbs, a Scottsville native who died in October 1995 with complications from Cystic Fibrosis.

Also making remarks at the event will be Dr. Gary Ransdell, WKU president; Tom Hiles, vice president for Institutional Advancement; and Alex Downing, president of the College Heights Foundation.
