Kentucky Mapping Professionals Visit WKU's GIS Facilities October 28, 2003 Hosted by GIS lab manager Kevin Cary and the Department of Geography and Geology, 15 KAMP members toured the GIS facilities, heard about the 12-hour GIS Certificate Program and learned how GIS is being used to digitize Western's campus for facilities maintenance. "Western has become a regional leader in promoting GIS technologies both in education and in community development," department head David Keeling said. "Our association with KAMP is just one way that we are building relationships with government, community, and business leaders to promote the use of GIS as a problem-solving tool." Those attending the meeting included President Kyle Snyder, Past President Trisha Brush, Vice President Kyle Bearden (an alumnus of the geoscience master's program), Treasurer Christy Davis and Susan Lambert, principal investigator for the Governor's Office for Technology. Other attendees came from Frankfort, Owensboro, the Georgetown Planning Commission and the Northern Kentucky Area Planning Commission.
