Juvenile Delinquency Prevention October 01, 2003 The project aims to prevent juvenile delinquency by improving families' access to resources and offering young people safe, productive ways to spend their free time. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) secured the funding as part of fiscal year 2003 appropriations legislation. "Two years ago, I was proud to support Western's efforts to help at-risk youth in the Bowling Green area by securing funds to start the Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Program," McConnell said. "last year, I earmarked additional funding to continue this important project, and I am glad that Western Kentucky University will be able to further its efforts to prevent juvenile delinquency." In the program, Western is working with schools and community agencies to develop structured daytime programs for students who have been removed from school and specialized after-school programs to help youth and their families. The project includes the ALIVE (A Local Information and Volunteer Exchange) Center, a clearinghouse of information on human services and volunteer opportunities in the region. -For more information, contact Katrina Phelps at (270) 745-4311.
