WKU School Of Journalism & October 24, 2003 The eighth annual awards ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. in the Mass Media and Technology Hall gallery. This year's Practitioner of the Year recipients are: Advertising: Sean Ward, owner of Digital Design Advertising in Bowling Green. Broadcast journalism: Dale Cardwell, a reporter for WSB-TV in Atlanta. Print journalism: Connie Schultz, a columnist at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. Public relations: John Asher, vice president of communications at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Visual journalism: Ron Garrison, photography director of the Herald-Leader in Lexington. The reception also will honor David B. Whitaker, former head of the journalism department and a 2003 inductee into Western's Hall of Distinguished Alumni. Following the reception, Western's public relations program is hosting a masquerade ball to celebrate its 30th anniversary and to honor Dr. Robert Blann. Blann, who died in June, was one of the founders of the public relations and advertising programs.
