Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University will host the seventh annual Jim Wayne Miller Celebration of Writing on Nov. 2.

The celebration, which begins at 2 p.m. (CT) in room 103 of the Garrett Conference Center, features readings from two local poets: Frank Steele and Peggy Steele. The Steeles will be reading from their own works.

The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing in the Garrett lobby. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Celebration is sponsored by Potter College Dean's Office and the Creative Writing Committee. The winners of the Jim Wayne Miller poetry-writing contest will also be announced and Potter College Dean David Lee will present first-, second- and third-place prizes.

The annual writing celebration was first held in 1997 in honor of Miller, a long-time Western faculty member and well-known poet, fiction writer and essayist. He was a professor of German from 1963 until his death in 1996 and also taught summer writing workshops throughout the Appalachian region.
