WKU Students Receive Awards
At State Science Meeting

Bowling Green, Ky. - Eighteen Western Kentucky University students received awards at the annual meeting of the Kentucky Academy of Science Nov. 6-8 at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green.

The meeting attracted 520 faculty and students from Kentucky with 317 research papers and posters presented. The academy also sponsors an undergraduate research competition and honors the top students in each scientific discipline.

Western's 18 award recipients were more than twice as many as any other college or university. First-place award winners included the following:

Kate Hertweck, a senior from Evansville, Ind., botany and microbiology.

Eli Roberson, a Dawson Springs senior, cellular and molecular biology.

Daniel Brame, a Hopkinsville senior, computer science.

Jonathan McGehee, a senior from Winslow, Ind., computer science.

David Logan, a Bowling Green senior, geography.

Brian Ham, a Bowling Green senior, geography.

Robert Zimmerman, an Owensboro junior, physics and astronomy.

Earl Wood, a Bowling Green senior, physics and astronomy.

Benjamin Sandefur, a Calhoun senior, best poster, physical sciences.
