WKU Forensic Team Takes
First Place In Two Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of Western Kentucky University's forensic team took first place in two tournaments last weekend.

Twelve members of the William E. Bivin Forensic Society competed at the Berea (Ky.) College Invitational and finished first in team sweepstakes ahead of the University of Indianapolis and Northern Kentucky University.

In Athens, Ohio, 18 WKU team members competed at the Ohio University/

Marshall University Swing Tournament and placed first overall in combined sweepstakes over George Mason University. Western placed second in team sweepstakes in the Ohio tournament and first in team sweepstakes at the Marshall tournament.

Individual results from the Nov. 14-15 Berea tournament are as follows:

Kate Hertweck, a junior from Evansville, Ind., communication analysis champion, third in duo interpretation (with Nick Romerhausen), third in extemporaneous speaking, third in impromptu speaking, third in informative speaking, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Nick Romerhausen).

Caleb Williams, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, after-dinner speaking champion, parliamentary debate champion (with Evelio Silvera), second in impromptu speaking, fourth in parliamentary debate speaker awards.

Chris Brasfield, a sophomore from Spring Hill, Tenn., duo interpretation champion (with Evelio Silvera), informative speaking champion, prose interpretation champion.

Evelio Silvera, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., duo interpretation champion (with Chris Brasfield), parliamentary debate champion (with Caleb Williams), second in parliamentary debate speaker awards.

Joelle Perry, a Florence freshman, impromptu speaking champion, second in extemporaneous speaking, fifth in informative speaking.

Emily Gibson, a Hodgenville freshman, persuasive speaking champion, fourth in impromptu speaking, fourth in informative speaking.

Nick Romerhausen, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., extemporaneous speaking champion, third in duo interpretation (with Kate Hertweck), quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Kate Hertweck).

Eric Rogers, a Cave City senior, semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Chris Hagins), first in parliamentary debate speaker awards, third in communication analysis, fourth in extemporaneous speaking.

Jacob Peregoy, a junior from Evansville, Ind., second in after-dinner speaking, second in poetry interpretation.

Barry Fields, a Bowling Green freshman, fourth in dramatic interpretation, sixth in informative speaking.

Ashley Courtney, a Mayfield sophomore, poetry interpretation champion.

Chris Hagins, a senior from Summerfield, Fla., semifinalist in parliamentary debate (with Eric Rogers), sixth in extemporaneous speaking.

Individual results from the Nov. 15-16 Ohio/Marshall Swing Tournament, which included a debate competition, are as follows:

Ashley Mack, a freshman from Mesa, Ariz., fifth in individual sweepstakes, third in programmed oral interpretation, third in prose interpretation, fourth in poetry interpretation in the Ohio tournament; fourth in individual sweepstakes, poetry interpretation champion, prose interpretation champion, second in programmed oral interpretation in the Marshall tournament.

Grace Bruenderman, a Lexington sophomore, third in informative speaking, third in rhetorical criticism, fifth in impromptu speaking, sixth in after-dinner speaking in the Ohio tournament; second in informative speaking, fourth in after-dinner speaking, fourth in rhetorical criticism in the Marshall tournament.

Ryan Howell, a sophomore from Plymouth, Ind., third in after-dinner speaking, fourth in programmed oral interpretation, fourth in prose interpretation in the Ohio tournament; third in programmed oral interpretation in the Marshall tournament.

Tony Damico, a Phoenix senior, after-dinner speaking champion, second in poetry interpretation in the Ohio tournament; second in after-dinner speaking in the Marshall tournament.

Lydia Nelson, a freshman from Carver, Mass., fifth in after-dinner speaking, fifth in persuasive speaking in the Ohio tournament; second in persuasive speaking, second in prose interpretation in the Marshall tournament.

Jeff Woods, a Florence junior, second in rhetorical criticism in the Ohio tournament; second in rhetorical criticism, fifth in after-dinner speaking, fifth in poetry interpretation in the Marshall tournament.

Jordon Wadlington, an Eddyville sophomore, third in persuasive speaking in the Ohio tournament; fifth in Lincoln-Douglas Debate Speaker Awards, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Elizabeth Au, a junior from Evansville, Ind., fourth in after-dinner speaking in the Ohio tournament; programmed oral interpretation champion in the Marshall tournament.

Melissa Messer, a San Antonio freshman, sixth in persuasive speaking in the Ohio tournament; third in poetry interpretation, fourth in persuasive speaking in the Marshall tournament.

Courtney Wright, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., fourth in prose interpretation, sixth in informative speaking, sixth in programmed oral interpretation in the Marshall tournament.

Lyndsey Nave, a senior from Harrisburg, Ill., fifth in persuasive speaking, fifth in prose interpretation in the Marshall tournament.

Margaret Au, a senior from Evansville, Ind., after-dinner speaking champion in the Marshall tournament.

Nicole Hawk, an Upton sophomore, fifth in impromptu speaking in the Marshall tournament; semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Jenny Corum, an Auburn junior, sixth in impromptu speaking in the Marshall tournament; quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Alex Rogers, a junior from Leawood, Kan., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Jennifer Purcell, a junior from Lewisville, Texas, second in Lincoln-Douglas Debate Speaker Awards.
