Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University has once again fully claimed all of its matching funds available through Kentucky's Regional University Excellence Trust Fund, or "Bucks for Brains" program.

Tom Hiles, vice president for Institutional Advancement, announced today that Western has raised gifts to match the $4,759,000 set aside by the 2003 Kentucky General Assembly. This was the third round of the popular endowment matching program.

Hiles said the $4.7 million in matching funds, made available to Western on Oct. 1, 2003, have been matched through 29 private gifts. Western submitted written agreements for all of the donations before Oct. 1.

"We are, for the third time in a row, submitting gifts and pledges to match the entire pool of $4.7 million on the first day that it was available," Hiles said.

WKU President Gary Ransdell said Western has taken a proactive approach to securing the available matching funds.

"Twenty-nine donors have leveraged their personal gifts to build critical endowments across key academic disciplines at Western," Dr. Ransdell said. "I applaud our legislature for its commitment to higher education in Kentucky. We are also grateful to our General Assembly for such a program, and to the alumni and friends who have made gifts allowing us to strengthen the quality of our academic programs and utilize all of our matching money."
