WKU Alters Summer School May 13, 2003 "Due to the cancellation of many schools for several days because of ice and snow, most school systems in the area will still be in session at the beginning of WKU's summer term, which commences on June 2," said Dr. Luther Hughes, associate vice president of academic affairs and director of summer school. To assist teachers and others affected, Western will begin classes later in the day for the first week of the summer session, he said. Those classes will return to their regular times on the second week. "WKU understands the importance of classes for teachers and others, and the University also realizes that group is also an important part of the summer program," he said. "Yes, our course offerings are important as they seek to achieve rank increases and gain additional insights that will help them as classroom teachers. But we also know they make up a sizeable part of our summer school program. They are important to the university." The first week schedule change also will benefit high school seniors who are taking summer classes at Western, Dr. Hughes said.
