The student, whose name has not been released, was flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nasvhille with burns.
The fire began about 4 a.m. in Hugh Poland Hall, a nine-story co-ed residence hall and was contained to the second-floor room by the sprinkler system. All other students were safely evacuated when the alarm sounded. The student was rescued from her room by Bowling Green firefighters.
The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Fire Marshall's office, WKU Police, Bowling Green Fire Department and Kentucky State Police.
A room in the Downing University Center has been opened for students and parents needing a place to stay or who want to talk to a university official. Students have been allowed to retrieve books and other personal items from their rooms to help prepare for finals, which begin on Monday. Housing officials hope to reopen the hall later today.
