Bowling Green, Ky. - It's not exactly Christmas in July; it's more like Homecoming in June.

It's Alumni College and Reunion Weekend at Western Kentucky University.

From June 4-7, Western's Alumni Association has four special events: Alumni College, Golden Anniversary Club reunion, Business University reunion and 1960s Decade reunion.

"We're encouraging alumni and friends to make their annual treks back to campus during two big weekends – Reunion Weekend in the spring and Homecoming (Nov. 1 this year) in the fall," said Donald Smith, executive director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.

The inaugural Alumni College is scheduled for June 4-6. In the continuing education program, alumni will spend two nights in one of Western's newly renovated residence halls, one day on campus in the classroom and one day on a trip to Mammoth Cave National Park.

Alumni College activities on June 5 include classes on Kentucky history, cave and karst study, grilling and fitness. Activities on June 6 include a trip to Mammoth Cave National Park.

"We're encouraging alumni, whether they've been out of school five years or 50 years, to come back to the classroom," Smith said. "We're hoping Alumni College will be a program that will continue to grow and inspire alumni to continue their quest for lifelong learning."

As Alumni College ends, Reunion Weekend activities begin the afternoon of June 6 at the Holiday Inn University Plaza hotel.

The Golden Anniversary Club Reunion will honor the Class of 1953. Activities include a reception and dinner at 6 p.m. June 6 at the Kentucky Museum and a brunch and induction ceremony at 9 a.m. June 7 at the Faculty House.

The Business University reunion activities include a special BU welcome at 6 p.m. June 6 in the hotel's hospitality room, a brunch at 9 a.m. June 7 at WKU's South Campus and dinner at 7 p.m. June 7 at the hotel.

The 1960s Decade reunion activities include a dinner at 6:30 p.m. June 6 at the Sloan Convention Center and a brunch at 10 a.m. June 7 at the Preston Health and Activities Center.

On June 7, members of all three groups can participate in tours of the WKU campus, Lost River Cave and Corvette Museum.

"Overall this should be a great weekend as alumni return to see what the Western Spirit is still all about while reuniting with college friends," Smith said.
