WKU To Host Model
UN Session March 14-16

March 13, 2003

Bowling Green, Ky. - As more attention is focused on the United Nations debate on Iraq, high school and college students can get a glimpse of the action during a Model UN Conference March 14-16 at Western Kentucky University.

About 70 high school students and more than 100 Western students will participate in five "authentic" simulations, according to Roger Murphy, assistant professor of government at Western. The simulations include Security Council,

General Assembly First and Third committees, Commission on Human Rights and a Middle East peace summit.

Dr. Murphy said delegates will be dealing with issues ranging from terrorism and biological weapons to child labor and the rights of women. Western's Model UN Team will act as staff and committee chairs.

"We hope to provide a conference that is as authentic as possible, increasing global awareness in the region," Dr. Murphy said.

Most of the activities will take place on the third floor of Grise Hall.
