WKU Student Honored In
Hearst Writing Competition

Bowling Green, Ky. - Kyle Hightower, a Western Kentucky University junior from Paducah, finished ninth in the sports writing competition of the 43rd annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.

Hightower and WKU's School of Journalism and Broadcasting received matching $500 awards.

After four of six writing competitions, Western is in sixth behind Northwestern, Nebraska, Penn State, North Carolina and Iowa.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program consists of writing, photojournalism and broadcast news competitions. In the past three years, Western has won the overall intercollegiate title twice and finished second once. Final winners will be named in April.
