WKU Receives $500,000 March 12, 2003 Alex Downing, president of the College Heights Foundation, said: "This generous charitable gift annuity allows the donor to have a source of lifetime income and to provide lasting support for Western Kentucky University in the form of scholarships. The donor's actions demonstrate devotion to Western and a belief in the importance of education." According to Downing, a charitable gift annuity is a contract in which a donor makes a gift of cash or marketable securities such as stocks or bonds in exchange for fixed payments for life to the donor and/or the donor's designate. "The payment does not fluctuate with the economy, so you know exactly how much income you will receive," Downing said. Tom Hiles, WKU's vice president for Institutional Advancement, added his thanks. "Endowing scholarships is one the highest priorities outlined in our "Investing in the Spirit Campaign,' " he said. The Campaign has a $90 million goal and will conclude on June 30, 2003.
