Expert On Kurdish People
To Speak At WKU On April 3
March 26, 2003
Bowling Green, Ky. - The future of the Kurdish people will be the topic of a lecture next week at Western Kentucky University.
Dr. Salah Aziz, executive director of the American Society for Kurds and a faculty member at Florida A&M University, will speak at 8 p.m. April 3 in the Grise Hall Auditorium. A reception will follow. The public is invited.
The Kurds in northern Iraq and Turkey are mentioned frequently in news reports about the war in Iraq.
"This will not be a forum on the war nor an advocacy of a policy toward the Kurds," said Dr. Larry Caillouet, director of WKU's Office of International Programs. "The lecture will be an informative presentation about these people with a long history but no country of their own."
The visit by Dr. Aziz is sponsored by WKU's Office of International Programs, Department of Government and Office of Academic Affairs as well as the Kentucky Council for International Education and NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
