Carmichael Honored As
Music Educator Of The Year
March 18, 2003
Bowling Green, Ky. - Dr. John C. Carmichael, who is in his 10th year as director of bands at Western Kentucky University, was recently recognized as the 2003 Kentucky College/University Music Educator of the Year by the Kentucky Music Educators Association.
To be considered for this honor, Dr. Carmichael had to be first nominated by one of the 12 KMEA districts. He was then asked to prepare materials for an application that was considered by a select committee at the state level.
In addition to a detailed statement of educational philosophy, the application contained letters of recommendation from students, faculty colleagues, and other area educators.
The award was presented at the KMEA In-Service Conference in Louisville on Feb. 7, the same day the WKU Wind Ensemble performed as the featured musical group for the keynote address session.
