Sports Medicine Symposium

Bowling Green, Ky. - About 200 high school coaches and trainers are expected for the 10th Western Kentucky University Sports Medicine Symposium on July 11.

The one-day workshop will provide information on injuries and sports medicine issues, according to Dr. Randy Deere, physical education professor.

The Sports Medicine Symposium will be held in the Tate Page Hall Auditorium. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. with sessions starting at 8 a.m.

Symposium coordinators are Dr. Deere and Dr. Craig Beard of Western Kentucky Orthopedics, the event's co-sponsor.

The workshop is sanctioned by the Kentucky Medical Association and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. The KHSAA requires coaches to attend a medical symposium once every two years.

Symposium topics include common foot problems, nutritional supplements, cardiovascular guidelines, hand injuries, off-season workouts, taping and wrapping knee joint and upper body stretching.
