WKU Student Honored In
Hearst Broadcasting Competition

Bowling Green, Ky. - A Western Kentucky University student has received an award in the first broadcasting competition in the 43rd annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
James Brandenburg, a Fairdale junior, finished eighth and received a $500 scholarship in the radio features contest. WKU's School of Journalism and Broadcasting will receive a matching $500 award.
After the first of two radio and television contests, Western is in fifth place behind Syracuse, North Carolina, Penn State and Arizona State.
The Hearst Journalism Awards Program consists of writing, photojournalism and broadcast news competitions. After two of six writing competitions, Western is fourth behind Northwestern, Penn State and Montana. After one of three photojournalism contests, Western is in second place behind San Jose State.
In the past three years, Western has won the overall intercollegiate title twice and finished second once. Final winners will be announced in April.
