Automotive Conference

February 26, 2003

Bowling Green, Ky. - The fourth annual Global Automotive Conference will be held April 7-9 at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green.

The theme of this year's conference will be "Survival Strategies for the Global Marketplace: A Guide for the Automotive Industry."

Conference chair William Parsons said with the current state of our government and economy, the theme of "Survival Strategies" should play out very well. Parsons, executive professor in the Gordon Ford College of Business at Western Kentucky University, said the more than 300 people expected to attend the conference will all be ready learn more about keeping the automotive industry alive in such turbulent times.

"We have an especially good group of speakers involved," Parsons said. "It's going to be very hard hitting."

Among the speakers this year is Jody Richards, Kentucky speaker of the house, and Pete Gritton, vice president of administration and human resources, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky. Richards will be speaking on the importance of collaboration between the university and businesses and Gritton will discuss the challenges for assemblers and suppliers in today and future global markets.

During the conference there will be many hands-on learning activities as well. Since the automotive industry is the fastest growing major industry in Kentucky, Parsons said it is important for everyone who attends learn and use the latest techniques.

"It's a learning laboratory for everyone involved," Parsons said. "The end result is attendees come away with one or two more tools they can apply to their job."

The conference is administered by the Office of Global Business and Entrepreneurship at WKU and includes more than 20 students who are actively involved with the programming and development of events.
