Conference Tournament Will Cause
Parking Changes At WKU

February 18, 2003

Bowling Green, Ky. - One of the goals of hosting the Sun Belt Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments is to bring people to Bowling Green and Western Kentucky University. That also means changes for students, faculty and staff who have to park on campus during the tournament.

Diddle Arena lot will be closed to students, faculty, staff and the general public March 6-11 because of Sun Belt Conference requirements. Also, the parking structure will be available to the general public for $5.

Those who usually park in the Diddle Arena lot or parking structure can park in the SKyPAC (Center Street or Capitol) lots or may park in the Campbell Lane lot and ride the shuttle to campus. Shuttles will also run between the SKyPAC lots and the Diddle Arena area each night from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

From Sunday, March 9, through Tuesday, March 11, students with "B" parking permits who usually use the parking structure will need to use the SKyPAC lots as well.

Dr. Karl Laves, chair of the Parking and Transportation Committee, said that WKU, as the tournament host, has to accommodate tournament guests.

"The SKyPAC lots are now big enough, safe enough and close enough to the residence halls to be an acceptable trade," Dr. Laves said. "We are also providing a shuttle to bring them from the lots on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, if needed."
