WKU Debaters Win Central
Michigan Tournament

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University debaters took top honors Feb. 22-23 at an invitational tournament hosted by Central Michigan University.
Stacy Bernaugh and Jennifer Purcell defeated Notre Dame debaters on a 3-0 decision in the finals of parliamentary debate. Bernaugh, a senior from Seaside, Calif., and Purcell, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, went undefeated for the tournament. Bernaugh was named top speaker for parliamentary debate and was named second-place speaker in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Purcell and Bernaugh advanced to the quarterfinals in Lincoln-Douglas debate, where they were paired against each other. Bernaugh advanced with higher speaker points.
Western's Hannah Reliford, a Georgetown sophomore, advanced to the final round of Lincoln-Douglas debate where she lost on a 2-1 decision. In Lincoln-Douglas debate, Purcell placed fourth in speaker awards with Reliford placing eighth.
The team of Reliford, Bernaugh, Purcell and Justin Cress, a Florence freshman, won the overall debate sweepstakes award.
