Forensic Team Ready For
National, International Events

Bowling Green, Ky. - Fresh off its 15th consecutive state championship, Western Kentucky University's speech and debate team is preparing for national and international tournaments.
Western's William E. Bivin Forensic Society will host the Delta Sigma Rho-Tau Kappa Alpha National Tournament on March 8-10. About 50 schools are expected to send teams to Bowling Green, according to Judy Woodring, forensic director.
Western has won the overall title in four of the past six DSR-TKA national tournaments and has a tradition of success in the debate portion of the event.
After the DSR-TKA tournament, Western's team will travel to Vancouver, British Columbia, for the International Forensics Association tournament March 16-23. Western won the IFA title for three straight years but didn't travel to the 2002 competition after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Woodring said the team hopes to reclaim the title this year.
Then in April, Western will aim for titles in individual events and debate at the National Forensics Association tournament. "We think we have the best shot this year to make history," Woodring said. "We're the only university consistently strong in both individual events and debate."
Western finished fourth in speech and second in debate at the 2002 NFA tournament. This year's event is April 17-21 at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
