Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University will pay tribute to its basketball tradition during Coming Home 2003 on March 1 in renovated E.A. Diddle Arena.

"Coming Home has become a tradition on the Hill as the basketball equivalent to football Homecoming," said Mary Beth Frith, associate director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. "March 1 will be a really exciting day at Western as alumni and friends visit Diddle Arena and see Hilltopper and Lady Topper legends as well."

Hilltopper and Lady Topper seniors also will be recognized in pregame activities before the final home games of the 2002-03 regular season. Western plays Middle Tennessee in a doubleheader with the women's game at 12:30 p.m. and the men's game at 3 p.m.

Between games a reunion room will be open in the arena's new Hall of Champions for fans to visit with former players.

"Coming Home 2003 will be a special day as Western honors this year's seniors and the alumni who've contributed to the Hilltopper and Lady Topper tradition," Frith said.

While Coming Home honors all former players, coaches, cheerleaders, managers and others associated with the WKU basketball program, Western will honor seven teams marking anniversaries this year.

During halftime of the Lady Topper game, the 1988 Sun Belt Conference tournament champions will be recognized.

During halftime of the Hilltopper game, Western will recognize the 1933 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, 1938 KIAC/Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association champions, 1943 KIAC champions, 1948 KIAC champions, 1953 Ohio Valley Conference champions and 1993 Sun Belt Conference tournament champions.

Other activities planned for Coming Home include the crowning of Coming Home King during halftime of the men's game and a concert by Nappy Roots at 8 p.m. Friday (Feb. 28) at Diddle Arena. Tickets for the concert are available from the WKU Ticket Office at the former Bowling Green Junior High School on Center Street.
