WKU Students Honored In
Hearst Photo Competition

Bowling Green, Ky. - Two Western Kentucky University students have received awards in the first photojournalism competition in the 44th annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.

Layne Greene, a Bowling Green junior, finished fifth and received a $600 scholarship in the feature and portrait/personality photography contest. Wiqan Ang, a Bowling Green senior, was eighth in the contest and received a $500 scholarship. WKU's School of Journalism and Broadcasting will receive matching awards.

After the first of three photojournalism contests, Western is in fourth place behind Ball State, San Francisco State and North Carolina.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program consists of six writing, three photojournalism and four broadcast news competitions. In the past five years, Western has won the overall intercollegiate title twice, placed second once and finished third twice.
