WKU Geoscience Faculty, December 02, 2003 Dr. Richard Deal participated in the planning and administration of the annual World Geography Bowl student contest. Dr. Katie Algeo presented research titled "Tourism Development and Mammoth Cave National Park." Michael R. Briggs of Hendersonville, Tenn., presented his master's thesis research titled "Roadside Memorial Practices: Landscapes of Commemoration in Warren County, Kentucky." Mark Graham of Penzance, England, presented his master's thesis research titled "An Empirical Test of Structuration Theory: Transportation Preferences in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Penzance, England." "Student participation in regional, national and international conferences is an important component of our graduate program," said Dr. David Keeling, head of the Department of Geography and Geology. "Mark and Michael epitomize excellence in graduate-level research, and both students are contemplating Ph.D. programs after earning the M.S. degree. Their training at Western Kentucky University makes them very competitive candidates for advanced study at top-ranked institutions."
