Egyptian Journalists Return For Final Week Of Training; Graduation Set For Saturday December 10, 2003 During this final week, the journalists are participating in a session on how to train their peers and co-workers in Egypt. WKU School of Journalism and Broadcasting faculty member Jackie Bretz is leading the group through a step-by-step process on how to create a series of short courses and workshops. The week culminates with the creation of a handbook that the journalists can use in training sessions that they will conduct once back in Egypt. On Saturday, WKU President Gary A. Ransdell will speak to the group and award certificates at the closing ceremonies. The ceremony will take place in the auditorium of Mass Media and Technology Hall on WKU's main campus in Bowling Green at 2 p.m. The project is collaboration among Western's Public Broadcasting, WKU's School of Journalism and Broadcasting, Al-Ahram Regional Press Institute and Internews Network. This project is funded by a grant from the United States Agency for International Development with support from Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY). McConnell recognized the collaborative possibilities of Western and Internews and was instrumental in bringing the partners together and in providing continuing support for the program. The journalists returned this week from two-week internships at various newspapers across the southeastern United States.
