To Expand Parking Structure

August 08, 2003

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University's Board of Regents has
authorized an $11 million bond issue to expand the existing parking structure.

On Friday, the board approved a bond resolution for the sale of $11,125,000
in Consolidated Educational Revenue Buildings Revenue Bonds. In May, the board
approved a student parking and transportation fee to repay the bonds.

Three new members – regent Forrest Roberts of Owensboro; student regent John
Bradley of Paducah; staff regent Pat Jordan of Bowling Green -- took the oath
of office at the Kentucky Building. The board also re-elected Lois Gray of
Elizabethtown as chair and Cornelius Martin of Bowling Green as vice-chair.

In other action, the board:

*Approved naming the Colonnade as the W.L. "Gander" Terry Colonnade to honor a
former football player and coach. Terry, a Marion native, was among the
students who worked to convert a rock quarry into a football stadium, where
the Colonnade was completed in 1927.

*Approved $1,287,500 for submission to the Council on Postsecondary Education
for matching funds from the Regional University Excellence Trust Fund.

*Heard a report from the Office of Sponsored Programs on growth in research
funding. In fiscal year 2003, Western received nearly $30 million, an increase
of $11 million over 1999 awards.
