Bowling Green, Ky. - Barry Brandon Nash, a Western Kentucky University freshman from Russellville, is the first recipient of the Earl V. and Mary W. Davis Scholarship.

Nash, the son of Walter and Darlene Nash, received a $3,500 scholarship. He is a 2003 graduate of Logan County High School and plans to major in business.

The scholarship is made possible through the Earl V. and Mary W. Davis Scholarship Fund, established in July 2003 by Mary W. Davis as a perpetual trust within the College Heights Foundation.

The fund honors the memory of Earl V. Davis, who died in 1989, and recognizes the contributions that both Mr. and Mrs. Davis have made to improve the quality of life in Russellville and Logan County and their belief in the importance of education.

Earl V. Davis was an employee of Citizens National Bank for more than 50 years, including 17 years as bank president. Under his leadership from 1969 to 1985, the bank's assets grew from $7.5 million to $78 million.

During his career, Davis was active in numerous civic organizations and economic development activities and was a lifelong supporter of Junior Achievement. He was a veteran of World War II.
