Program Presents Awards

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Women's Studies program at Western Kentucky University presented its annual awards on April 11 at the Garrett Conference Center.
Elizabeth Hale, a Nicholasville senior and an English Allied Language Arts major, was the Women's Studies Writing Contest undergraduate winner for her essay "Candy Hearts and El Capitan Meadow."
Zacchaeus Greg Compson, a Remus, Mich., graduate student in biology, was the Women's Studies Writing Contest graduate winner for his essay "Fire Wire."
Paula Bowles, a Greenville graduate student in sociology and women's studies, received the Graduate Scholarship for outstanding academic performance and the Seneca Falls Personal Empowerment Award for significant accomplishments and personal development.
Sarah Lawrence, a Bowling Green senior, received the Catherine Ward Scholarship for outstanding academic performance. She is a government and sociology major and women's studies minor.
Judith T. Owen of Bowling Green, director of WKU Career Services Center, received the Catherine Coogan Ward Feminist Action Award for outstanding efforts to promote gender equity.
