WKU Student Honored In
Hearst Writing Competition

Bowling Green, Ky. - Abbey Brown, a Western Kentucky University senior from Vincennes, Ind., finished seventh in the personality/profile writing competition of the 43rd annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.

Brown and WKU's School of Journalism and Broadcasting received matching $500 awards.

After five of six writing competitions, Western is in seventh behind Northwestern, Penn State, Nebraska, Iowa, North Carolina and Kansas.

The Hearst Journalism Awards Program consists of writing, photojournalism and broadcast news competitions. In the past three years, Western has won the overall intercollegiate title twice and finished second once. Final winners will be named later this month.
