Musician Gerri Gribi To Perform
At WKU's South Campus
April 01, 2003
Bowling Green, Ky. - Musician, historian and storyteller Gerri Gribi will perform "A Musical Romp Through Women's History" next week at Western Kentucky University's South Campus.
Gribi's performance will begin at 7 p.m. April 10 at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Accompanying her soprano voice with autoharp, mountain dulcimer and guitar, Gribi brings history to life through traditional songs.
She began using traditional songs as a way of teaching history in the 1970s while she worked for the education department of the Cincinnati Historical Society. Disturbed that most traditional women's song portrayed women as victims, Gribi set out to recover songs showing women in a more positive light.
Her visit is sponsored by the Women's Studies Program, the Catherine Coogan Ward Visiting Professorship, the Potter College of Arts and Humanities and the Department of Music.
