WKU Forensics Team Competes
At Purdue Tournament

Bowling Green, Ky. - Nine members of Western Kentucky University's speech and debate team competed in the first tournament of the year this weekend at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

Western's William E. Bivin Forensic Society placed third in individual events sweepstakes behind Truman State and Ball State. In combined individual events and parliamentary debate sweepstakes, Western placed second behind Texas Southern.

The following students placed in the final rounds in the Sept. 20-21 tournament:

David Burns, a sophomore from Dayton, Ohio, second in duo interpretation, third in duo interpretation, fifth in poetry interpretation and fifth in individual sweepstakes (entered in at least four events).

Evelio Silvera, a junior from Fort Myers, Fla., was the prose interpretation champion, second in impromptu speaking and third in extemporaneous speaking.

Stacy Bernaugh, a senior from Hazelwood, Mo., second in duo interpretation, sixth in impromptu speaking and semifinalist in parliamentary debate.

Drew Allen, a junior from Brentwood, Tenn., third in duo interpretation and third in poetry interpretation.

Jennifer Purcell, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, sixth in persuasive speaking and semifinalist in parliamentary debate.

Tony Damico, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., fourth in after-dinner speaking.

Courtney Smith, a junior from Downers Grove, Ill., fifth in after-dinner speaking.
