WKU Forensics Team Members
Compete In Two Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of the Western Kentucky University forensics team competed in two weekend tournaments.

Eight members of the William E. Bivin Forensic Society traveled to Kirksville, Mo., for the Truman State Swing Tournament, while 11 team members went to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the Middle Tennessee State/Clemson Swing Tournament.

In the Truman State tournament, Western placed second overall in combined individual events and debate sweepstakes. In the MTSU/Clemson swing, Western placed second in individual events sweepstakes in both portions of the swing.

Individual results from the Sept. 27-29 Truman State tournament are as follows:

Stacy Bernaugh, a senior from Hazelwood, Mo., impromptu speaking champion in first individual events tournament; sixth in extemporaneous speaking in second tournament; and quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Jennifer Purcell, a sophomore from Lewisville, Texas, extemporaneous speaking champion in both individual events tournaments.

Kate Hertweck, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., impromptu speaking champion and second in extemporaneous speaking in second individual events tournament; third in extemporaneous speaking in first tournament.

Advancing to the final 16 in Lincoln-Douglas debate were Jenny Corum, an Auburn sophomore; Raegan Gibson, a senior from Evansville, Ind.; and Hannah Reliford, a Georgetown sophomore.

The team of Justin Cress, a Florence freshman, and Evan Floyd, a sophomore from West Chester, Ohio, made the final 16 in parliamentary debate.

Individual results from the Sept. 27-29 Middle Tennessee/Clemson swing are as follows:

Evelio Silvera, a junior from Fort Myers, Fla., impromptu speaking champion, informative speaking champion and second in duo interpretation with Jennifer Taylor in the MTSU portion; prose interpretation champion, third in informative speaking and sixth in duo interpretation with Nicole Estenfelder in the Clemson portion.

Jennifer Taylor, a junior from Harrisburg, Ill., poetry interpretation champion, second in duo interpretation with Evelio Silvera and second in impromptu speaking in the MTSU portion; fifth in impromptu speaking in the Clemson portion.

Courtney Smith, a junior from Downers Grove, Ill., after-dinner speaking champion and semifinalists in prose interpretation in the MTSU portion; second in prose interpretation, third in after-dinner speaking and fourth in informative speaking in the Clemson portion.

Nick Romerhausen, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., third in informative speaking and fifth in persuasive speaking in the MTSU portion; third in persuasive speaking and fifth in after-dinner speaking in the Clemson portion.

Chris Blackford, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., fifth in programmed oral interpretation and sixth in prose interpretation in the MTSU portion.

Rebecca Simms, a Lebanon sophomore, third in prose interpretation in the MTSU portion; fourth in prose interpretation in the Clemson portion.

Chris Brasfield, a Fulton freshman, fifth in dramatic interpretation in the MTSU portion; fourth in programmed oral interpretation and fifth in poetry interpretation in the Clemson portion.

Adam Henze, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., fifth in prose interpretation in the Clemson portion.

Jeff Woods, a Florence sophomore, fifth in persuasive speaking in the Clemson portion.

Tony Damico, a Phoenix junior, sixth in poetry interpretation in the Clemson portion.

Nicole Estenfelder, a Florence sophomore, sixth in duo interpretation with Evelio Silvera in the Clemson portion.
