Author Sallie Bingham
To Visit WKU Dec. 5

Bowling Green, Ky. - Author Sallie Bingham will read from her latest collection of short stories next week at Western Kentucky University.

Bingham will read from "Transgressions" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Cherry Hall, room 125. A reception hosted by WKU President Gary Ransdell and the English Department's Creative Writing Committee will follow.

In the 11 stories of "Transgressions," Bingham examines modern-day transgressions in affairs of the heart. The book, published by Sarabande Books of Louisville, is her third short story collection. Bingham also has written five novels, two collections of short stories and a memoir.

Her short stories have been published in The Atlantic Monthly, New Letters, Plainswoman, Plainsong, The Greensboro Review, Negative Capability, The Connecticut Review and Southwest Review. Her stories have been included in Best American Short Stories, Forty Best Stories from Mademoiselle, Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards and The Harvard Advocate Centennial Anthology.

She was book editor of The Courier-Journal, has been a director of the National Book Critics Circle and is the founder of the Kentucky Foundation for Women and The American Voice.
