WKU To Observe World
Aids Day Events

WKU Logo
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University will observe World AIDS Day with a series of events Dec. 1-3.

World AIDS Day emerged from the call by the World Summit of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS Prevention in January 1988 to open channels of communication, strengthen the exchange of information and experience, and forge a spirit of social tolerance. Each year, Dec. 1 is the only international day of coordinated action against AIDS.

On Dec. 2 and 3, information will be available from display tables in the Downing University Center (DUC). Participants include Kentucky Minority AIDS Program, WKU Health Services, Bowling Green Interfaith Council, WKU Diversity Coalition, WKU Women's Studies Program and Barren River Area Health Department. Information, games, safer sex kits, T-shirts, key chains and free HIV antibody testing will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Dec. 3, Lost River will provide music in DUC Nite Class as pieces are dedicated for the AIDS Quilt at 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., there will be a memorial interfaith service and candlelight vigil in the DUC Theatre. At 8 p.m., Floord will provide music in Nite Class.

More information on World AIDS Day is available at www.wku.edu/worldaidsday.
