Southern Kentucky Concert Band
Begins Ninth Season

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Southern Kentucky Concert Band's Twilight Concert Series begins its ninth season Thursday.

The band, open to all adults who play band instruments, will perform from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays at Basil Griffin Park Amphitheater. The eight-week season concludes July 25. The group will rehearse from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Western Kentucky University's band rehearsal hall.

Season highlights include a visit by composer Robert Jager from Tennessee Tech on June 20, the annual John Philip Sousa concert on June 27, a concert on the Fourth of July and a performance by the Lost River Cave Big Band on July 25. Admission to the Twilight Concert Series is free.

The band's membership has grown to more than 65, according to Dr. John C. Carmichael, co-conductor and WKU's director of bands. Concert attendance has grown to more than 400 per show, he said.

"The mission of the Southern Kentucky Concert Band is to provide an opportunity for life-long music making for the residents of Bowling Green, Warren County and surrounding communities," he said. "A secondary part of that mission is to provide entertainment for those who love to listen to live music in pleasant surroundings."
