Cambodian Radio Journalists Begin
Three-Week Program
Bowling Green, Ky. - On Saturday, 10 Cambodian radio journalists begin a three-week training session hosted by Western's Public Radio through the International Journalism and Media Management Training Program at Western Kentucky University.
The program includes panel discussions with professionals and WKU faculty along with hands-on training at WWHR, Western's student radio station. Western students, School of Journalism and Broadcasting faculty, and professionals from the region join Western's Public Broadcasting staff as trainers. The discussion is translated between English and Khmer by two Cambodian translators.
The Cambodian journalists will produce and broadcast their work on WWHR from May 25 to May 29. The broadcast time will be determined by program staff during the first two weeks of training.
A closing awards ceremony and reception is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 30 in Academic Complex, room 213. The three-week session ends May 31.
The multi-year project is a collaboration between Western and Internews® Network, an international nonprofit organization that supports open media worldwide.
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was instrumental in securing the funding for the program from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
