Results From Kentucky High School
Speech League's Junior State Tournament
At Western Kentucky University

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Kentucky High School Speech League hosted its Junior State Tournament for middle and elementary schools March 15-16 at Western Kentucky University.

The School for Creative and Performing Arts at Bluegrass in Lexington placed first overall in the sweepstakes.

Other schools in the top 10 were: R.G. Eversole Middle School in Hazard, second; Ockerman Middle School in Florence, third; Franklin-Simpson Middle School, fourth; The Lexington School, fifth; Kentucky Country Day Middle School in Louisville, sixth; Winburn Middle School in Lexington, seventh; Hindman Elementary in Knott County, eighth; Sacred Heart Model School in Louisville, ninth; and Southern Pulaski Middle School in Somerset, 10th.

The Horizon Awards were given to schools with smaller entries that show excellence. The top five were Adams Middle School in Prestonsburg, Harrison County Middle School in Cynthiana, St. Paul School in Florence, Beaver Creek Elementary in Knott County and Morton Middle School in Lexington.

Individual awards were as follows:

Broadcasting: Prya Murad (Eversole), state champion; Srindhi Reddy (Eversole), second; Holly Hart (Southern Pulaski), third; Stephanie Seithers (Morton), fourth; Megan Gilbert (Lexington School); fifth; Jacob McClellan (Winburn), sixth.

Duo acting: Hannah Fulkerson and Rachel Helson (Sacred Heart Model), state champions; Si-Huyn Jeong and Brittany Whalen (Ockerman), second; Caity Bower and Callie Mills (SCAPA), third; Sam Hunter and Miles Hopgood (Lexington School), fourth; Lora Beth Barr and Becca Peffley (SCAPA), fifth; Brennan Villines and Shane Brinkley (Dixon Elementary), sixth.

Extemporaneous speaking: Jessica Green (St. Paul), state champion; Kathleen Burke (Ockerman), second; Emily Holtman (SCAPA), third; Adrienne Pfendt (Ockerman), fourth; Katy Curtis (Franklin-Simpson), fifth; Natalie Harrington (SCAPA), sixth.

Improvisational duo acting: Amanda Harms and Laura Handy (Ockerman), state champions; Molly Maggard and Mary Sims Carter (Eversole), second; Katie Priest and Leslie Ladd (Lexington School), third; Selena Alexander and Leslee Ray (Eversole), fourth; Emily Prats and Kelsey Minarik (Winburn), fifth; Amber Short and Savanna Short (Hindman), sixth.

Interpretation of literature: Melissa Cavner (Ockerman), state champion; Justin Dial (Ockerman), second; Nick Lafferty (Adams), third; Sagan Rose (SCAPA), fourth; Kristina Satek (St. Paul), fifth; Meagan Bowdy (SCAPA), sixth.

Oratorical declamation: Matthew Williams (Eversole), state champion; Edie Carson (Harrison County), second; Ben Metzger (Franklin-Simpson), third; Elaine Collins (SCAPA), fourth; Elizabeth Kaiser (St. Paul), fifth; Kim Williams (Adams), sixth.
