June 24, 2002 WKU Hosting Spanish Teacher Western and the Kentucky Department of Education are sponsoring the June 24-28 event at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center. The focus of this year's conference is providing the teachers with experiences and technology skills to make connections between their Spanish classes and the Hispanic communities in Kentucky, according to Dr. Deborah Paprocki, assistant professor of Spanish and on-site coordinator for the conference. Guest speakers who work with the Hispanic communities in Kentucky will share information with the teachers. On Tuesday, the group will visit a farm near Owensboro to tour the farm and speak with migrant workers. Teachers may also register for graduate credit through WKU. The directors of the academy are Spanish teachers Sharon Mattingly of Barren Country High School and Ginger Robinson of Apollo High School in Owensboro.
