June 04, 2002 WKU Student Honored In Hearst Competition Andreas Fuhrmann of Bowling Green, who also received a $1,000 award, is an intern at the Birmingham (Ala.) News. This fall, he will be photo editor of Western's student newspaper, the College Heights Herald. Fuhrmann, photojournalism student Brian Wagner of Knoxville, Tenn., and broadcasting student Cory Ramsey of Fulton competed in the Hearst competition's national finals last weekend in San Francisco. Jo-Ann Albers, director of the School of Journalism and Broadcasting, also was in San Francisco to pick up several more awards for WKU's nationally recognized program. Western finished second overall in the Hearst competition, which includes photojournalism, broadcasting and writing contests. Western, which finished first overall in 2000 and 2001, was second in photojournalism, fourth in broadcasting and 10th in writing.
