WKU To Conduct Emergency
Exercise Friday
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University, in cooperation with various city and county emergency agencies, will conduct an emergency exercise Friday.
The exercise will allow the University to activate its crisis management plan and allow interaction between University officials and other emergency responders, said Charlotte Reeder, WKU's Environmental Health and Safety director.
Reeder said this is the first time an exercise has involved members of the Bowling Green police and fire departments, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management and the Local Emergency Planning Committee with emergency responders at the University.
The exercise will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the area of Dogwood Avenue and University Boulevard. It will involve a leaking tanker truck and a hostage situation and is expected to last about two hours, Reeder said. Public access to Dogwood will be restricted during the exercise.
Members of the media are welcome to cover the exercise. A media room will be established in the Downing University Center, room 329, next to the command center. They can receive information as well as an arm band that will allow them access to the "emergency" site.
