Four WKU Students Honored
In Hearst Competitions
Bowling Green, Ky. - Four Western Kentucky University broadcasting and journalism students have been honored in the 42nd annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
Cory Ramsey, a Fulton junior, placed second in the radio broadcast news feature competition and qualified for the semifinals. Ramsey, who earned a $1,500 scholarship and a matching amount for the WKU broadcasting program, will submit additional tapes for a second round of judging.
Meredith Reeves, a Fort Mitchell senior, placed 13th in the radio feature competition. Dan Gaddie, a Louisville senior, tied for 19th in the television news feature competition.
After the first radio and television competition, Western is fourth overall behind Syracuse, Florida and Arizona State.
In the editorial/columns of opinion writing competition, R. Justin Shepherd, a Shepherdsville junior, tied for 13th.
The Hearst Journalism Awards Program recognizes excellence in writing, photojournalism and broadcasting. Western has won the overall intercollegiate title for the past two years. Final results from this year’s competitions will be announced in April.
