WKU Forensics Team First Overall
In Two Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of Western Kentucky University's speech and debate team traveled in different directions last weekend but finished their trips with the same result - first-place overall.

Eight members of the William E. Bivin Forensic Society competed at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire/Ripon College Swing Tournament in Eau Claire, Wis. Western won first place in overall team sweepstakes for the swing, first in team sweepstakes at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion and second at the Ripon portion.

Nine members of the forensics team competed at the Simmons/Suffolk Swing Tournament in Boston. Western won first place in overall team sweepstakes for the swing, first in team sweepstakes at the Simmons portion and first at the Suffolk portion.

Individual results from the Wisconsin-Eau Claire/Ripon College Swing Tournament on Feb. 9-10 are as follows:

Drew Allen, a sophomore from Brentwood, Tenn., tournament champion in after-dinner speaking and prose interpretation and second in persuasive speaking in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion; tournament champion in after-dinner speaking and second in persuasive speaking in the Ripon College portion.

Elizabeth Au, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., tournament champion in dramatic interpretation and fourth in persuasive speaking in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion; second in dramatic interpretation and fourth in persuasive speaking in the Ripon College portion.

Nicole Estenfelder, a Florence freshman, tournament champion in persuasive speaking and fifth in dramatic interpretation in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion; fourth in duo interpretation and dramatic interpretation and sixth in prose interpretation in the Ripon College portion.

Phillip Wininger, a Bowling Green senior, fourth in communication analysis and sixth in impromptu speaking and informative speaking in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion; third in communication analysis in the Ripon College portion.

Keith Blaser, a junior from Evansville, Ind., second in dramatic interpretation and fifth in persuasive speaking in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion; third in dramatic interpretation and fifth in persuasive speaking in the Ripon College portion.

Joel Smith, a Murray freshman, second in after-dinner speaking in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion; fourth in duo interpretation in the Ripon College portion.

Corey Alderdice, a Water Valley sophomore, fourth in after-dinner speaking in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion.

Rebecca Simms, a Lebanon freshman, sixth in after-dinner speaking in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire portion; fifth in after-dinner speaking in the Ripon College portion.

Individual results from the Simmons/Suffolk Swing Tournament on Feb. 9-10 are as follows:

David Wilkins, a Bardstown senior, tournament champion in after-dinner speaking, second in impromptu speaking and a semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Simmons portion; third in impromptu speaking and sixth in after-dinner speaking in the Suffolk portion.

Sarah Sparks, a Morehead senior, tournament champion in informative speaking and co-champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Simmons portion; second in informative speaking and quarterfinalist in varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Suffolk portion.

Raegan Gibson, a junior from Evansville, Ind., co-champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fifth in rhetorical criticism in the Simmons portion; semifinalist in varsity Lincoln Douglas debate in the Suffolk portion.

Jennifer Purcell, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, second in persuasive speaking and third in communication analysis in the Simmons portion; tournament champion in persuasive speaking and rhetorical criticism in the Suffolk portion.

Jenny Corum, an Auburn freshman, third in persuasive speaking and a semifinalist in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Simmons portion; tournament champion in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Suffolk portion.

Kate Hertweck, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., third in Lincoln-Douglas speaking, fourth in informative speaking and a quarterfinalist in varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate in the Suffolk portion.

Stacy Bernaugh, a Bowling Green junior, fourth in impromptu speaking in the Suffolk portion.
