WKU Forensics Team Members
Compete In Three Tourneys
Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of Western Kentucky University's speech and debate team competed in three tournaments last weekend.
On Feb. 1-2, 11 members of the William E. Bivin Forensic Society were in Atlanta for the District 6 American Forensics Association Qualifying Tournament. WKU finished second in overall sweepstakes and had several entries qualify for April's American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament.
On Feb. 2-3, three team members competed at the Point Loma Invitational in San Diego while three other team members competed in the Murray State/Hopkinsville Community College swing tournament.
Following are results from the Atlanta tournament (team members who finished first, second or third qualified for AFA nationals):
Kate Hertweck, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., first in communication analysis, extemporaneous speaking and persuasive speaking and sixth in impromptu speaking.
Jennifer Purcell, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, fourth in extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking and persuasive speaking and fifth in communication analysis.
Alisa Ponananta, a Florence senior, first in programmed oral interpretation, third in duo interpretation (with Margaret Au) and fifth in informative speaking.
Drew Allen, a sophomore from Brentwood, Tenn., first in duo interpretation (with Keith Blaser), fifth in prose interpretation and sixth in duo interpretation (with Margaret Au).
Keith Blaser, a junior from Evansville, Ind., first in duo interpretation (with Drew Allen) and fourth in prose interpretation.
Adam Henze, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., first in poetry interpretation and sixth in programmed oral interpretation.
Raegan Gibson, a junior from Evansville, Ind., third in communication analysis and third in persuasive speaking.
Rebecca Simms, a Lebanon freshman, third in poetry interpretation and sixth in after-dinner speaking.
Margaret Au, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., third in duo interpretation (with Alisa Ponananta) and sixth in duo interpretation (with Drew Allen).
Andrew Causey, a sophomore from Franklin, Tenn., second in programmed oral interpretation.
Caleb Williams, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, second in communication analysis.

Nicole Estenfelder, a Florence freshman, second in persuasive speaking and a semifinalist in prose interpretation.
Joel Smith, a Murray freshman, and Katie Tyree, a sophomore from Plymouth, Ind., third in duo interpretation.
Following are results from the Murray State/Hopkinsville Community College Swing, where WKU placed 10th in overall sweepstakes at the Murray portion and third at the HCC portion.
Eric Rogers, a Cave City junior, fourth in informative speaking at both portions.
Abby Lovan, a freshman from Jeffersonville, Ind., sixth in informative speaking at the Hopkinsville portion.
Jeff Woods, a Florence freshman, third in communication analysis at the Hopkinsville portion.
