WKU Student Broadcasters Honored
In Competitions
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University student broadcasters received several awards in recent competitions conducted by the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Western won eight awards in the annual Associated Press student broadcast news competition. The awards, which were presented April 10 in Louisville, included Best Television Newscast for the student-produced WKU NewsChannel 12 program.
In the regional competition of the Society of Professional Journalists, Western received six awards, including second place in Non-Daily Newscast for NewsChannel 12.
Individual award winners from Western in both competitions are as follows:
Cory Ramsey, a Fulton junior, first place newscast, second place sports report and honorable mention feature/human interest story in AP radio contest; best sports report in AP TV contest.
Noelle Bye, a senior from Evansville, Ind., best reporter, first place feature/human interest story, first and second place news report, honorable mention feature/human interest story in AP TV contest; second place television feature, third place general news and third place feature photography in SPJ contest.
Lora Chaffins, a Lexington senior, first place best reporter, AP radio contest; third place feature reporting, SPJ contest.
David L. Shinall, a Bowling Green senior, first place radio spot news reporting, SPJ contest.
Brandon Bratcher, an Owensboro junior, honorable mention news report, AP radio contest.
Keke Vencill, a Richmond junior, second place feature/human interest story, AP TV contest.
Kyle Edelen, a Louisville sophomore, second place television sports reporting, SPJ contest.
