WKU Plans Candlelight Vigil, Faculty Forum,
Other Activities After Attacks On Our Nation
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University is
planning several opportunities to help faculty, staff, students
and community members deal with this week's attacks in New York
and Washington.
A student-organized candlelight vigil is planned for 7:30 p.m.
to 9 p.m. tonight (Sept. 13) at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center
Amphitheater. The program will include several faculty members.
A faculty forum will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Van Meter
Auditorium. A panel of WKU faculty members will provide information
and answer questions to help people gain a better understanding
of the tragedy.
Western has set aside the Faculty House to provide times of reflection,
meditation or conversation for students, faculty and staff. Representatives
from campus ministries and campus counseling staff will be present.
The times are: 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight (Sept. 13); 1 p.m. to
11 p.m. Friday; 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday.
Western also created a grieving and condolences message board
for individuals to send messages to those in New York and Washington.
Messages can be sent to tragedy@wku.edu through Tuesday. Messages
will be printed and sent to the mayor of New York and the secretary
of defense.
A blood drive, sponsored by Scabbard and Blade, is scheduled
for 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at Garrett Conference Center Ballroom.
