WKU Forensics Team Places First At Purdue Tournament

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University's William E. Bivin Forensic Society placed first in individual events sweepstakes in its first tournament of the year last weekend at Purdue University.

In the individual events sweepstakes, Western finished ahead of Ball State, Truman State, Eastern Michigan, Texas Southern and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Western also finished third in the combined individual events and parliamentary debate sweepstakes behind Truman State and Texas Southern.

Fourteen members of Western's forensics team competed in the Sept. 21-22 event at West Lafayette, Ind.

Individual results are as follows:

Nicole Estenfelder, a Florence freshman, fourth in duo interpretation and fourth in novice prose interpretation.

Adam Henze, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., fourth in programmed oral interpretation and fifth in dramatic interpretation.

Andrew Causey, a sophomore from Franklin, Tenn., second in dramatic interpretation and fourth in duo interpretation.

Rebecca Simms, a Lebanon freshman, first in novice prose interpretation.

Abby Lovan, a freshman from Jeffersonville, Ind., third in novice prose interpretation.

Corey Alderdice, a Water Valley sophomore, fourth in prose interpretation.

Eric Rogers, a Cave City junior, sixth in extemporaneous speaking.

In parliamentary debate, David Wilkins and Jennifer Purcell were undefeated in preliminary rounds and advanced to the quarterfinals. Wilkins, a Bardstown senior, was the top speaker for the debate tournament. Purcell, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, placed fifth in the speaker awards.
