WKU To Host Event Kickoff For National Farm
Safety Week
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University will
host a statewide kickoff for this month's National Farm Safety
Week (Sept. 16-22).
The FFA Career and Safety Summit is scheduled from 8:45 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. CDT on Sept. 18 at WKU's L.D. Brown Agricultural
Exposition Center.
Educational sessions for FFA high school students include ATV
safety, gun/hunter safety, farm safety and potential agribusiness
careers. About 30 FFA chapters are expected to participate in
the sessions as well as in video and poster competitions.
The public is invited to attend the noon activities that will
feature a simulated farm accident that includes rescue and helicopter
evacuation. Following the demonstration, Kentucky Agriculture
Commissioner Billy Ray Smith of Bowling Green will speak on farm
safety and present the state proclamation for farm safety week.
Initial sponsors include the Kentucky Partnership for Farm Family
Health and Safety, Inc., WKU's Agriculture Department, the Kentucky
Department of Agriculture, the South Central Kentucky Area Health
Education Center (AHEC), Kentucky Fire Rescue Training (KCTCS)
and STATCARE.
